Moshi, United Republic of Tanzania – IOM, the UN Migration Agency, through its country office in Sudan, its African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) in Moshi and in collaboration with the Passport and Civil Registration Corporation (PCRC) under the Sudanese Ministry of Interior conducted a 2-week advanced Training of Trainer on Teaching Methodology in Moshi (16-27 April 2018).
The training gathered polices officers from the Passport and Civil Registration Centre, the Immigration Department as well as one IOM Sudan staff. The 13 participants to the training have previously undergone one basic trainings and one Tot, both facilitated by the ACBC in 2017 and 2018 in Sudan.
The objective of the training was to provide participants with the skills to design and deliver their own training courses based on the knowledge and skills gained to the context of border management to their operational colleagues in Sudan.
Nelson Goncalves, IOM ACBC Senior Immigration and Border Management (IBM) Training Specialist stressed that “in order to train officials to carry out their assigned tasks, every government agency should have its own specific processes, procedures and trainings for its staff, therefore, specific training of trainers programmes are necessary. These ToT programmes will allow the GoS trainers to follow established processes and procedures to securely facilitate border crossings.”
One of the outcome of this ToT is the development of a training curriculum on Border Management to be delivered internally having in consideration Sudanese specificities, namely the strategic geographical position.
The ToT was held under the Better Migration Management programme (BMM) aiming at improving migration management in the Horn of Africa, and particularly to address the trafficking and smuggling of migrants within and from the Horn of Africa through policy harmonisation, capacity building, protection and awareness Raising.
