10 African states attend IOM ACBC’s Webinar on Border Management

29 July 2021. Representatives of Algeria, Burkina Faso, Comoros, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Tanzania and Togo participated in a 3rd webinar session organized under the framework of IOM ACBC’s Webinar Programme for African Member states, on Border Management.

The event which was respectively held in English and French, was facilitated by IOM’s Immigration and Border Management Regional Thematic Specialists (IBM RTS) based in Nairobi and Dakar, Mr. Marcellino Ramkishun and Mrs. Alvina Samjawon.

The Border Management webinar discussed the concepts of Integrated Border Management (IBM), One-Stop Border Post (OSBP), the role of community policing and the importance of gender mainstreaming in implementing and improving cooperation at borders to best address common migration challenges, such as transnational crimes.

The importance of implementing the Niamey Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation at the local, sub-regional, and regional levels to make border areas catalysts for growth, socio-economic, and political integration to promote peace, stability, and development was emphasized, as was IOM's support in the implementation of the IBM approach for improved management of mobility, both people and goods.
