The ACBC has long-standing partnerships with regional entities in Africa, including with the African Union and several of Africa’s prominent regional economic communities. In 2024, for example, the ACBC was invited by the AU to contribute content to the Livingstone Syllabus Curriculum on Humanitarian Border Management, and has contributed to the drafting of the other curricula and policy guidance, such as the draft AU Continental Guidelines on Return, Readmission, and Reintegration and the AU Generic Manual on Counter Smuggling and Trafficking.
The ACBC has also provided regular support to the AUC-IOM-ILO Joint Labour Migration Programme (JLMP), supporting the development of JLMP curricula on Migrant Welfare and Social Protection for African Union Member States and Gender-Sensitive Labour Migration Policy Formulation, Implementation and Coherence in Africa, while also serving as a host for meetings and organizing and co-facilitating JLMP training events. The ACBC has also provided support to the AUC Continental Operational Centre in Khartoum in the development of its five-year strategic plan.
Regional Economic Communities to which the ACBC has provided similar forms of support include East African Community, the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the Southern African Development Community, and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
