In 2020, the IOM African Capacity Building Centre will continue to offer quality training and capacity enhancement/building support to African Member states that wish to strengthen their capacities in the thematic area of migration and border management.
The ACBC will continue to ensure that its technical support aligns with the African Union normative frameworks, vision and strategies on labour and human mobility, migration, and development and migration governance as per the IOMs continental strategy for Africa, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Compact for Migration (GCM). Some of the challenges we aim to tackle include health at borders, labour migration management at borders, cross border trade and development, gender issues, specific challenges at border related to climate change and identity management.
ACBC’s vision for 2020 further aims to ensure continued close coordination and cooperation with: IOM's Country and Regional Offices, IOM's Member states and donors, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the African Union (AU). This support will tackle emerging migration and border trends and challenges, as well as ensuring that ACBC's training and technical support conforms to the highest international standards. To keep pace with rapid developments in technology, the Centre will increase its training offers - in-house through webinars in close collaboration with IOM experts across the continent.
