The African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) made remarkable strides in 2023, focusing on enhancing migration management capacities across Africa. Key achievements include:
- Events and Training: Facilitated 46 face-to-face events, benefiting 652 government officials and IOM staff.
- Partnerships: Strengthened collaborations with African regional bodies and new capacity-building entities within IOM.
- Programs and Projects: Launched the Young African Professionals Programme (YAPP) and completed two multi-year border management projects funded by the Netherlands..
- New Initiatives: Introduced the International Migration Law – African Capacity Development Programme (IML-ACDP) for 2024, focusing on migration-related treaties and institutions.
- Courses: Developed new courses on protecting the human rights of migrants, with a focus on Africa and the MENA region.
Despite the challenges, the ACBC remains committed to leveraging IOM’s global migration expertise to help African States realize the opportunities in migration management.
