18 – 30 April 2021. United Republic of Tanzania – Representatives from the Ministry of Security of Burkina Faso carried out a study tour in the United Republic of Tanzania from 19 to 30 April 2021 under the framework of the IOM project "Strengthening Border Security in Burkina Faso”, funded by the Government of Germany.
The 2-week activity combined 4 days of training at the ACBC in Moshi with 4 days of meetings with the Government Institutions in Dar Es Salaam. Training sessions focused on transnational organized crime, with a particular focus on migrant smuggling and human trafficking, victim identification and interviewing, as well as integrated border management, child protection, border policing, free movement protocols, identity verification and fraud detection. The delegation was also able to visit one of Tanzania’s one-stop border posts at Holili and enjoy a day of cultural immersion in Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions. The goal of the study tour was to help build Burkina Faso’s national capacities as a way to improve security, stability, and social cohesion along its borders while also reducing violence through activities that help build trust between authorities and border communities in Centre-East, East, and South-West regions of the Country.
In the spirit of cooperation between border management authorities in both Burkina Faso and Tanzania, a series of meetings were held with the Tanzanian Immigration Service (TIS), Tanzanian Revenue Authority (TRA), and Tanzanian police, to discuss key issues related to border management and the fight against transnational organized crime.
“We have gained great knowledge that we will be happy to utilize in different activities. We believe that the objectives that were set for the study visit have been clearly attained. The main objective for us was to be able to disseminate this knowledge to our colleagues who did not get an opportunity to be here with us. We are thankful to IOM Tanzania and the ACBC for this opportunity” said Oumarou Guira, head of the delegation.
