From 2 to 6 February, seventeen (17) officers from the National Immigration Police received a training on the IOM Passport Examination Procedures in the Police Academy in Djibouti. This training was carried out with the collaboration of the IOM African Capacity Building Center, Moshi, Tanzania.
The objective of the training was to enhance the capacities of the immigration and border officials in intercepting, examining and analyzing fraudulent documents and recognizing identity fraud in order to effectively combat irregular migration and combat trafficking smuggling and smuggling of migrants, as well as cross-border crime, including terrorism and other illegal activities. The 5-day-training offered modules on the manufacturing, customization and international standards on biometric passports. The trainer developed explanations and practical cases on the manufacturing then in the personalization of the passports by taking examples on those of Djibouti.
Also, participants were trained on the best behaviors towards passengers holding a fraudulent travel document arriving at the border of the country.
